Brevier's tea-break drawer

Eight browser games for the hour
while the ink dries on the strings

Every run of proofs needs an hour on the strings before it can be touched, so Brevier pushes his spectacles up his snout, drags a stool to the bench and picks a game from this drawer. Eight free browser games wait in it: a space economy built by real players, a horse farm, a sleepy valley village, three kingdoms at war and two clubs to manage, and none of them needs downloading first.

Prosperous Universe

Player-run space economy · Business & tycoon

Brevier respects any trade where nothing appears unless somebody makes it, and Prosperous Universe is built exactly that way: every commodity in its galaxy comes out of a real player's factory. You run production lines, ship cargo between bases, honour contracts and trade on a commodity exchange where only the players decide what anything costs.

Good for
Players who want a genuine market rather than a scripted one.

What the 8 cost: nothing to start, though they offer optional in-game purchases.

01

Free from the first tutorial to the last siege

None of the eight charges to join, and the economy, stables, village, kingdoms, clubs and empire all arrive as complete games.

Off to one side, each studio sells speed-ups and cosmetics. Lots of seasoned players have never opened it; where a whole household shares one laptop, a spending cap can normally be switched on in each account.

02

Opening a fresh game from the drawer

Each button in Brevier's drawer sends you, in a new tab, to the website its studio runs. Register on it with your email, and soon you will have a base, a stable, a village, a club or a planet to tend.

Every game begins with a tutorial for beginners. Stay with it until it lets go of your hand; the menus and the economy make far more sense afterwards.

03

Quick glances and long evenings

Closing the tab does not stop any of the eight: goods roll off the line, horses rest, fixtures are played and planets grow. A look before the first print run and another after the last proof keeps each one on track.

Spend the brief visits gathering, lining up orders and chatting with your Order or league, and the long evenings for heavier choices such as a new production line, a transfer or a siege.

04

Locking up your login like a forme

Your password for each game should only ever be typed on the web address its studio publishes. One password per game, with two-step sign-in turned on wherever a studio offers it, leaves each account as snug as a locked forme.

A real studio has no need to request your password. Anyone promising premium currency in exchange for it wants the account, so ignore and report them.

What got each of these into the drawer

  • Brevier runs every one in a plain web browser on the shop laptop, so a working signal at the bottom of the steps is all it takes.
  • Registration is free across the board, and nobody has to visit a shop to reach the full game in any of the eight.
  • Stables, villages, clubs and planets keep busy behind a shut tab, which means a peek while the platen is being re-inked still nudges them on.
  • These are long-lived games with settled communities, so newcomers find plenty of old hands willing to explain the ropes.

No. Brevier chose eight games that play in a computer browser, and half of them also come as an official mobile app.

All eight are free to join and play, and each full game is open without spending; whether you ever buy something inside a game is entirely your decision.

No, and Typecase Cellar did not make them either. Separate independent studios made the eight and keep them running, and every button in the drawer goes to that studio's official site.

No. Each game has its own studio, so you create a separate free account for every one.

Throne: Kingdom at War, Horse Farm, Sunrise Village and Online Soccer Manager also come as official mobile apps. Prosperous Universe, Game of Thrones: Winter is Coming, PowerPlay Manager and Hyperiums Reborn are listed as browser games, so a laptop or desktop suits them best.

Online Soccer Manager gets a season going in minutes, and Horse Farm asks only a few minutes at feeding time. Prosperous Universe and Hyperiums Reborn reward longer planning.

Yes. Prosperous Universe runs on a market of real traders, both kingdoms and Hyperiums Reborn turn on alliances, and the two club games fill their leagues with human managers.
